Prep: Played four years of basketball and was a three-time captain for Zon Thompson at Chandler High School... Participated in two years of track and field under head coach Eric Richardson... 2010-11 honorable mention Arizona All-5A selection by The Arizona Republic... Scored more than 1,000 points and grabbed over 700 rebounds in three prep years... Considered a four-star prospect and ninth-ranked post player nationally by ESPN HoopGurlz.
Personal: Born Dec. 13, 1993, in El Paso, Texas, to Robert Newton and Victorian Ward... Has two siblings: Sharné Newton and Ne Ché Newton... Began playing basketball at age nine... Chose Georgia Tech for the prestige of the diploma, the women's basketball program and the beautiful campus... Comes from a very athletic family: mother, Victorian Ward, played basketball at Eastern Arizona College; father, Robert Newton, played basketball at University of New Mexico; her aunt, Kasha Lawrence, played basketball at Boise State; another aunt, Jill Ward, played basketball at Yale; her uncle, Brenton Ward, ran track at Northern Arizona University; uncle, Wendell Lawrence was a triple jumper at Boise State and competed in the 1992 Barcelona Olympics for the Bahamas... Undecided major... Would like to pursue a career in law or as a sports agent.
