A coach that brings with him a wealth of experience in both men’s and women’s basketball, Art Prevost is in his second season as a member of the Georgia Tech women’s basketball staff. He joins the staff after spending the 2003 season as the top assistant coach with Akron’s women’s basketball team. With the Yellow Jackets, Prevost will assist with recruiting and work on developing Tech’s perimeter players.
Last season, Prevost joined Kelly Kennedy in her first season at Akron, as the staff worked to rebuild a program that went 1-27 in 2002. The Zips defeated MAC member Marshall in 2003 for their first conference victory in more than a year. Serving as Akron’s recruiting coordinator, his first group of signees at the school included six new players, two of which were junior college All-Americans.
Prior to joining the staff at Akron, Prevost was a member of Minnesota’s men’s basketball staff for three seasons. He served as the Golden Gophers’ director of basketball operations during the 2000 season, before being promoted to a full-time assistant coach in the spring of 2000. As one of Don Monson’s top recruiters, Prevost was responsible for Minnesota’s 2001 recruting class, which was rated among the top classes in the nation and included McDonald’s High School All-American Rick Rickert. During his time at Minnesota, the Gophers participated in the National Invitation Tournament in both 2001 and 2002.
Before his tenure with the Gophers, Prevost was the women’s associate head coach at TCU. While with the Horned Frogs, he acted as the recruiting and academic coordinator for Mike Peterson’s team. He signed the first class in TCU history to earn a bid to the NCAA Tournament. Prevost signed four junior college All-Americans, along with a 1997 recruiting class that was ranked among the top 20 in the nation.
A 1990 graduate of Lamar University, Prevost was a two-year letterwinner for the Cardinals. As the team’s point guard, he helped lead Lamar to its last 20-win season in 1988. After graduating, Prevost spent two years on the Lamar men’s basketball staff.
He is a member of the WBCA and the Black Coaches Assocation. He and his wife Tona have a 5-year-old daughter, Taylon, and a 1-year-old son, Treyson.
