Box Score

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech dropped a 74-68 decision at Boston College on Sunday in both teams’ regular season finale. Junior Tyaunna Marshall led Georgia Tech for the 15th time this season with 18 points.

The loss drops the Jackets to 14-15 overall and 7-11 in the ACC. The win moves the Eagles to 11-18 and 5-13 in the ACC. Up next for Georgia Tech is the ACC Tournament beginning on Thursday, March 7, at the Greensboro (N.C.) Coliseum. The Yellow Jackets seed will be determined upon the completion of Sunday’s games.

“It’s obviously a very disappointing loss,” head coach MaChelle Joseph said. “I thought Boston College played extremely well on senior night and made shots when they needed to. I felt like we broke down defensively too many times. When you break down that many times against a team that shoots the ball as well as Boston College does, its difficult to get stops. We feed off our defensive stops and we weren’t able to get those today.”

Aaliyah Whiteside finished with 14 points, including Tech’s final nine points of the game. Sydney Wallace added 12 points. Roddreka Rogers grabbed 11 rebounds, the fifth straight game she has hauled in double-digit boards and the sixth time this year, all of which have come against ACC opponents.

Boston College opened the game on a 12-2 run but Tech pulled back within 21-20 at the under eight media timeout. Coming out of the break, Sydney Wallace hit her first 3-pointer to give the Yellow Jackets their first lead of the day, 23-21.

The Jackets grabbed their biggest lead of the game, four, when Marshall’s jumper put Tech up 25-21 with 6:52 to play in the first half. Over the final six minutes of the opening period, there were three lead changes and one tie.

Whiteside’s 3-pointer on the first possession of the second half put Tech back up 38-36. Boston College re-gained the lead on a pair of Katie Zenevitch free throws two minutes into the second half. Kristen Doherty extended the Eagles’ lead to eight, 53-45, midway through the half.

Dawnn Maye’s fastbreak layup cut the BC lead to four less than a minute later but the Eagles extended the advantage back to 11 on a Kerri Shields 3-pointer. An Alexa Coulombe jumper put Boston College up 11, 67-56, with 4:14 to play. A three-point play from Nariah Taylor pulled the Jackets back within eight before two straight Whiteside threes cut the Eagle lead to two, 67-65, and forced a BC timeout. Nicole Boudreau hit a 3-pointer out of the timeout and the Jackets weren’t able to comeback.
