GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) – Four Yellow Jackets scored in double-figures but the Georgia Tech women’s basketball team (18-14, 7-9 ACC) fell short to #16/12 North Carolina (24-7) in the second round of the ACC Tournament at the Greensboro Coliseum.

“We’re disappointed in the final score of the game, but like I’ve told this team all year long, the scoreboard doesn’t make you a winner or loser, it’s how you play the game,” head coach MaChelle Joseph said. “I really felt like we played hard for 40 minutes.”

Zaire O’Neil and Kaela Davis had 14 points, Aaliyah Whiteside added 13 and Roddreka Rogers 10 for Georgia Tech (18-14). Rogers had 11 rebounds and O’Neil 10 as the Yellow Jackets had a 46-40 rebounding advantage but shot 35 percent and had 18 turnovers. They went outscored by 10 at the foul line, going 5-of-11.

“One of the things that I’m proud of our effort is any time you out rebound North Carolina you’re doing something, and that’s a huge effort on our part with our post players being 5’11” and six foot to out rebound North Carolina. I thought that was a great effort,” Joseph said.

Stephanie Mavunga scored 23 points, matched her career-high with 16 rebounds and blocked a career-high eight shots on Thursday to lead No. 15 North Carolina, the sixth seed, to an 84-64 win over 11th-seeded Georgia Tech in the second round of the ACC tournament.

Allisha Gray scored all 14 of her points in the second half, reaching double figures for the 29th time in 31 games, and Latifah Coleman added 10 points for North Carolina.

North Carolina shot 50 percent for the game.

Freshman Antonia Peresson hit a 50-foot buzzer beater shot heading into halftime to cut the Tech’s deficitto 10 points at the half, 37-27. The Jackets would close the gap to five points at 17:50 in the in the second half, 41-36, after O’Neil completed a three point play, but the Tar Heels would respond with a 5-0 run and keep the lead for the remainder of the game.
