ATLANTA (AP) –
Kaela Davis finished with 20 points and Roddreka Rodgers had 13 points and eight rebounds, but Georgia Tech fell to in-state rival No. 24 Georgia 64-57 on Sunday.

“”The little things are the things we need to take care of,” head coach MaChelle Joseph said. “Our defense has improved tremendously to hold Georgia to 64 points and 20 percent field goal shooting percentage in the first half and 35 percent for the game. It says a lot about our improvement on the defensive end. We have to do a better job on the offensive end.”

Shacobia Barbee scored a career-high 24 points and Krista Donald added 11 points and 12 rebounds to help the Lady Bulldogs.

With the Lady Bulldogs leading by four, Barbee stole the ball from Davis near Georgia Tech’s baseline, and hit Merritt Hempe to make it a six-point lead with 35 seconds remaining.

Davis quickly hit a 3, but Georgia’s Marjorie Butler closed the game out by hitting four free throws.

Mackenzie Engram scored 12 points and combined with Barbee and Butler for 20 rebounds. Georgia (4-0) out-rebounded the Jackets by 10.

The Lady Bulldogs improved to 33-4 in the series and have won four straight against the Yellow Jackets who move to 3-1 on the year.

Georgia took its first lead of the second half on Hempe’s layup at 17:12 and went ahead for good when Donald hit a 3 to make it 49-47 nearly 10 minutes later.

Barbee’s previous career high was 23 points last January against Alabama. She went 4 for 6 from the field in the first half, while Georgia’s other shooters were 3 for 20.

Georgia improved to 9-3 in the series since 2001, when Georgia Tech snapped a 24-game losing streak to the Lady Bulldogs.

Georgia Tech missed 18 of its first 23 shots from the field and trailed 16-11 before Sydney Wallace’s jumper put the Jackets ahead 24-22. Georgia Tech dropped to 3-12 in series home games.

Georgia Tech hosts Grambling State on Tuesday.
