Jackets Hold Off Mizzou in Junkanoo Jam 72-70
Georgia Tech women's basketball team moves to 6-0 on the season
BIMINI, BAHAMAS -- Georgia Tech women's basketball held off Missouri in the final game of the Junkanoo Jam to capture the Freeport Division with a 72-70 victory. With the win, Tech moves to 6-0 on the season.
How It Happened
Francesca Pan hit a field goal immediately out of the gate, but Mizzou responded with a 9-2 run to grab a 9-4 lead with less than three minutes expired in the first quarter. Pan snapped the streak with a triple, but Mizzou would extend its lead to eight points ending the quarter on a 5-0 run for a 20-12 quarter lead.
Tech outscored Mizzou 19-11 in the second quarter to erase its deficit as the teams were tied at 31-31 at halftime. Cha'Ron Sweeney and Imani Tilford combined for 17 of Tech's 19 points in the quarter as Tilford knotted the score at 24-24 with a pair of free throws at the 4:09 mark. Sweeney handed the Yellow Jackets their first lead with a jumper at the 1:50 mark as Tilford followed with an old-fashioned three-point play on the next possession to give GT a 31-27 edge with 1:31 to play. Mizzou ended the half with a 4-0 spurt to tie the game.
Mizzou led the entire third quarter, but Pan scored Tech's first seven points in the final frame to return a 51-50 lead to the Yellow Jackets with 8:05 to play. After a three-point play from Mizzou, Tilford returned the final lead to the Yellow Jackets at 5:21 hitting a three-pointer.
Tech returns to Atlanta and opens a four-game homestand on Dec. 1, welcoming Michigan for the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. Tip in McCamish Pavilion is slated for 7 p.m. on ACC Network Extra.
