THE FLATS — Behind a school record 14 made three-pointers, Georgia Tech downed Appalachian State 81-52 on Sunday afternoon in McCamish Pavilion. Elo Edeferioka notched her first double-double as a Yellow Jacket, while Cha’Ron Sweeney poured in a career-best 17 points.
“I think one of the things that has been good for us with this type of game is we develop our depth, get to see different combinations and get to see players in different situations,” commented head coach MaChelle Joseph. “I was just really pleased overall with our play and our three-point shooting. I also liked the way we shared the basketball — it seemed we shared the basketball pretty effectively. Now we get to step away from the court for a couple of days and just focus on academics.”
How It Happened
Tech opened with a blazing start as four of its first six field goals came from three-point range, forcing App State to call an early timeout in the first quarter trailing 16-4. Antonia Peresson capped the strong first quarter, nailing a triple in front of the visiting bench as time expired, pushing Tech’s lead to 21-8 at the break. The Yellow Jackets opened a 20+ point lead in the second quarter fueled by Peresson with three treys in the stanza as Tech pushed its lead to 46-21 at the halftime intermission.
Flurries of three-pointers continued for the Yellow Jackets as Tech gained a 30-point edge in the third frame. Cha’Ron Sweeney sank Tech’s 13th three-pointer of the game at the 6:23 mark in the fourth quarter, tying the program record. Sweeney would also hit Tech’s 14th three-pointer with less than 30 seconds left in the game to set a new program record of made three-pointers in a contest. The graduate student finished with a career-best 17 points on the afternoon.
Four Yellow Jackets reached double-figure scoring numbers led by Sweeney’s 17 points. Peresson finished with 15 points, while Edeferioka added 11 points and Chanin Scott wrapped up with 10. App State was held to a 30.2 percent shooting clip from the floor.

* Tech moved to 9-1 on the season with the win and moved to 6-1 at home
* Tech has won seven straight over the Mountaineers with the victory
* The last time Tech hit eight three-pointers in the first half dates back to Virginia on Feb. 14, 2014 when Tech was 8-of-13 from long distance against the Cavaliers in the opening frame. Tech went on to win 95-76
* For the third straight game, Tech has hit 10 or more three-pointers and set a new program record of 14 made three-pointers this afternoon
* Tech twice before hit 13 three-pointers in a contest in 2015 and 2013
* The Yellow Jackets finished 14-of-27 from three-point range for a 51.9 percent shooting efficiency
* Tech won the rebounding battle 46-41 led by Edeferioka’s 10 boards
* Imani Tilford finished with nine points, four steals and six assists
