Nassau, Bahamas - Sophomore Tyaunna Marshall scored a game-high 15 points as the Georgia Tech women's basketball team (8-3) cruised to an 80-38 win over the SIU-Edwardsville Cougars (5-5) Monday night at Kendal Isaacs Gymnasium in Nassau, Bahamas.
The Yellow Jackets shined at both ends of the court, shooting 57.1 percent from the field and the Tech defense held SIU-Edwardsville to just 25 percent for the game.
Sophomore Dawnn Maye was 6-of-7 from the field and finished with 12 points and senior Sasha Goodlett added 11 points. Goodlett now has 989 career points and is just 11 from 1,000 for her career, and has scored in double figures in five of Tech's last six games.
The Jackets opened the game with a 7-0 run and didn't allow a Cougar field goal until Raven Berry got a layup at the 15:59 mark of the first half.
Marshall began the game red-hot from the field, making six of her eight field goal attempts in the opening frame and added a free throw to head into the break with 13 points, her 10th double digit game in Tech's 11 games this season.
The Jackets forced 20 Cougar turnovers in the first half and turned them into 14 points offensively. Georgia Tech was able to drive to the rim in the opening frame, netting 24 points in the paint in the first half en route to a 32-22 lead. The Yellow Jackets have led at the half eight times this season and have won seven of those games.
Tech and SIU-Edwardsville traded baskets to open the final 20 minutes, but then the Yellow Jackets went on a 25-1 run to build a 59-25 lead with 8:59 remaining. Tech used all 13 available players down the stretch as the Jackets rolled to their third straight win.
