Women's Basketball Rolls Past Clemson, 66-33

THE FLATS –Georgia Tech never trailed in Sunday’s matinee as the Yellow Jackets picked up their first ACC win of the season with a 66-33 victory over Clemson to closeout 2017. With the win, the Jackets improved to 12-3 overall and 1-1 in league play.

“I was pleased defensively with the way we responded after the loss to Louisville,” noted head coach MaChelle Joseph. “One of the things we talked about the last couple of days was that Clemson out-rebounded us by a significant number last year and rebounding was really important in this game. I thought we shared the basketball pretty well and kept our turnovers to 12. I thought we did some good things. We obviously still have a lot of work to do.”

How It Happened
Danielle Edwards tied the game in the first quarter hitting a three-pointer at 3:25, setting up a 9-9 contest. But the Jackets would hold the Tigers scoreless until the 3:43 mark of the second frame while posting a 15-0 run to take a comfortable 24-9 lead. Shooting 60.0 percent (6-10) in the second frame, Tech would outscore Clemson 20-3 to carry a 33-12 lead into halftime. Francesca Pan led all scorers at intermission with 10 points.

After Clemson opened the third quarter with four quick points, the Jackets held the Tigers to 10 points for the remainder of the frame and continued to push their lead out. Tech would extend its lead to as many as 29 points in the stanza on an Antonia Peresson three-pointer with less than a minute to play and led 53-26 entering the final quarter. Tech held its largest lead of 35 points in the game off a Kaylan Pugh bucket at the 6:08 mark. Breanna Brown scored Tech’s final three points of the afternoon for the 66-33 score.
