Georgia Tech Game Notes

Wake Forest Game Notes

Georgia Tech will open the second half of its ACC season when the Yellow Jackets take on the Wake Forest Demon Deacons in a 7 p.m. tilt Thursday night at McCamish Pavilion. The Jackets will try to extend their five game-winning streak over Wake Forest while snapping their current six-game skid.

In two games against Wake Forest last year, Tyaunna Marshall shot nearly 46 percent from the field and averaged 17.0 points and 11.0 rebounds. She recorded double-doubles in both contests and the Demon Deacons are the only school she has more than one career double-double against. Dawnn Maye led Tech in the win at Wake with a then-career-high 23 points.

Through games of Jan. 28, Tech has played the sixth most difficult schedule in the country and the five with harder SOSs are all ranked in the top nine of the latest Associated Press poll.

Sydney Wallace led Tech in its last game with 21 points, including four 3-pointers. Brittany Jackson was a perfect 10-of-10 from the free throw line and finished with 17 points. Marshall tallied her ninth career double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds.

POSTING AN SOS
Through games of Jan. 28, Georgia Tech’s strength of schedule is ranked sixth by realtimerpi.com, the most difficult schedule of any ACC team this year.

Eight of Georgia Tech’s 12 losses come to teams ranked 20 or higher in this week’s AP poll. Another comes to Syracuse, which is 16-3 and receiving votes. Miami is receiving votes in the coaches poll but not the AP.

The top five teams in terms of strength of schedule through Jan. 28 are: Stanford (18-2), Tennessee (16-4), Baylor (18-1), UConn (19-1) and Cal (17-2). The five are a combined 88-10 and all are ranked in the AP top 10.

STRENGTH IN NUMBERS
A statistical look at Tech’s ACC schedule shows just how difficult of a challenge the first half of league play was for the third youngest team in the ACC. The Jackets’ opponents through their first nine ACC games, own an overall record of 114-46 and a conference record of 44-25. The opponents in the second half of the schedule own an combined overall record of 87-72 and an league mark of 27-40.

HARDSHIP GRANTED
Jasmine Blain was granted a medical hardship waiver for the 2011-12 season on Jan. 25, 2013. Blain, now a redshirt junior, tore her ACL in the third game of the 2011-12 season at Marquette.

PERFECT 10
Freshman Brittany Jackson was a perfect 10-of-10 from the free throw line against NC State, helping her climb to a tie for 11th in the ACC, making 75 percent of attempts. In conference games, Jackson is fifth, making 84.4 percent of attempts.

The 10-of-10 performance tied for the third best single-game free throw performance in school history and was the first 10-of-10 game since Briggite Ardossi did it against North Carolina on Feb. 26, 2010. Only six players in Jacket history have ever made every free throw in a game with at least 10 attempts.

CLIMBING THE SCORING LADDER
Ty Marshall is climbing the Georgia Tech career scoring chart in her third year on the Flats.

Marshall entered her junior campaign on the outside of the top 26 – all 1,000 point scorers – and has climbed to 14th through the NC State game with 1,297 points. LeeAnn Woodhull is 13th all-time at Tech with 1,302 points and Stephanie Higgs is 12th with 1,315 points.
