Basketball Closes Road Swing at Virginia Thursday

THE FLATS — Wrapping up a two-game road swing, the Georgia Tech women’s basketball team heads to Virginia for a 7 p.m. matchup on Thursday on RSN.

THE STARTING FIVE…
1. Georgia Tech wraps up this stretch of four of five games on the road at Virginia on Thursday. The game will be televised on RSN and locally on Fox Sports South. Fans can also listen live on WREK 91.1/WREK.org.
2. Virginia leads the all-time series 54-16 despite the Jackets having taken six of the past eight meetings, including the last meeting in Charlottesville two seasons ago.
3. Tech looks to snap a four-game skid on Thursday meeting the Cavaliers for the 71st meeting in program history. The Jackets have won only three games in Charlottesville with two coming during MaChelle Joseph’s tenure.
4. Despite three Jackets scoring in double-figures at Clemson, Tech dropped a 62-61 decision in Littlejohn Coliseum last Sunday. Zaire O’Neil led the offense with 19 points, while Katarina Vuckovic and Imani Tilford each added 10 points.
5. Head coach MaChelle Joseph is in her 14th season on The Flats and carries an all-time career record of 265-170. Joseph is the all-time winningest coach in program history and holds the highest winning percentage in Yellow Jacket history at 61.4 percent.

A WIN WOULD…
-Move Georgia Tech to 14-8 on the season and push its road record to 4-4
-Mark the fourth win in Charlottesville for the Jackets and third straight when competing at Virginia
-Move the all-time series record to 54-17 in favor of Virginia
-Snap a four-game skid and give the Jackets their third ACC win this season
-Mark Coach Joseph’s 266th career win at Georgia Tech and give Georgia Tech its 641st all-time program win

LAST TIME THEY MET
Georgia Tech and Virginia met last season in McCamish Pavilion on Jan. 17 with the Cavaliers taking the decision 78-67. The Jackets narrowly won the rebounding battle, 36-35, including a 20-11 offensive rebounding edge which turned into a 21-9 second chance point advantage. Virginia shot 54.1 percent for the game and outscored Tech in the paint, 42-26. Tech shot 35.7 percent from the field, but was 25.0 percent from three-point range, going 7-of-28 from beyond the arc. The Cavaliers utilized 11 Tech turnovers, converting the miscues into 23 points.

LAST TIME OUT
Despite three Yellow Jackets scoring in double-figures, Tech dropped a 62-61 decision at Clemson last Sunday. Zaire O’Neil led the offense with 19 points, but the Tigers won the rebounding battle 39-21, including 17-10 in offensive rebounds, to walk away with a one-point victory. Tech shot 40.7 percent (22-54) from the field compared to Clemson’s 45.8 percent (22-48) effort. The Jackets forced 20 Clemson turnovers, converting the miscues into 20 points.
