Feb. 8, 2013
THE FLATS - Former Yellow Jacket Sasha Goodlett has been named a finalist for the Atlanta Sports Council's Collegiate Athlete of the Year award presented by AT&T.
The award is given to the Atlanta collegiate athlete who demonstrates superior physical ability in her or her sport. Georgia women's gymnast Kat Ding and Georgia football player Jarvis Jones are the other two finalists.
As a senior in 2011-12, Goodlett led the Yellow Jackets to their best season in school history. Tech finished the year with a program-best 26 wins, a trip to the Jackets' first Sweet 16 and second Atlantic Coast Conference championship game, and the highest ranking in school history, finishing the year at No. 10 in the coaches poll. Goodlett and her four fellow seniors left the Flats as the winningest class in Georgia Tech history, racking up 95 career wins.
Goodlett finished her career ranked in the Georgia Tech top 10 in points (10th, 13,64), rebounds (9th, 760) and blocked shots (5th, 127). She was only one of two players in the ACC to rank in the league's top 10 in points, rebounds and blocks, and was named to the All-ACC second team.
She was named the 2012 State of Georgia Women's College Player of the year by the Atlanta Tipoff Club and was selected in the first round of the WNBA Draft, No. 11 overall, by the Indiana Fever. During her rookie season with Indiana, the Fever won the WNBA title.
The Atlanta Sports Awards will be held at the historic Fox Theatre's Egyptian Ballroom on Tuesday, March 5, 2013, beginning with a red carpet entry and VIP reception at 5:30 p.m. Additionally, the 8th annual awards gala will host a silent auction prior to the ceremony which begins at 7 p.m.
