THE FLATS – Georgia Tech women’s basketball freshman Kierra Fletcher was tabbed the ACC Rookie of the Week on Monday following her performance in Tech’s win over North Carolina last week. The weekly honor marked the first for the Warren, Mich., native this season.
Nearly missing a double-double against UNC, Fletcher posted a career-high 18 points against the Tar Heels and pulled down nine rebounds (two shy of tying her career-high). In 28 minutes on the court, Fletcher dished out four assists and tied for the team-high in rebounds with nine. Fletcher dominated in the second half against UNC, shooting 4-for-7 from the field and 4-for-7 from the charity stripe to post 12 points in the final two quarters, along with five rebounds.
On the year, Fletcher is averaging 7.1 points per game and 4.9 rebounds per game. In ACC play, she is averaging 9.2 points and 5.9 rebounds per game.
Fletcher has scored in double-figures in eight games this season and started every game for the Yellow Jackets. She is one of only four freshmen in the ACC to have started all games this season. Amongst all freshmen in the league, Fletcher ranks ninth in scoring (7.1 ppg), fifth in rebounding (4.9 rpg) and third in steals (1.37 spg).
The Jackets return to the court for their final regular season home game on Thursday, hosting Miami at 7 p.m. The game will be televised on RSN, locally on Fox Sports South.
