Tyaunna Marshall Named AP Honorable Mention All-American

April 2, 2014

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech women’s basketball senior Tyaunna Marshall was named an honorable mention All-American by the Associated Press on Tuesday.

“Ty Marshall is one of the most unrated and underappreciated players in the country,” head coach MaChelle Joseph said. “She has made a career of surpassing everyone’s expectations. I am excited that she has been recognized by the AP as an honorable mention All-American. She is very deserving of this honor.”

Marshall was also named an honorable mention AP All-American in 2013, making her the first Yellow Jacket to garner All-America honors in back-to-back seasons. Marshall is just the second Yellow Jacket to earn recognition from the Associated Press. Kisha Ford was named an honorable mention AP All-American in 1997.

The All-America honor joins a long list of awards for Marshall that includes All-ACC First Team, ACC All-Defensive Team and the Georgia College Women’s Player of the Year, awarded by the Atlanta Tipoff Club.

As a senior, Marshall became the all-time leading scorer in school history and the first Jacket to score 2,000 career points. She finished her career with 2,129 points. This season, Marshall led the Jackets in scoring with 19.6 points per game, in rebounding with 7.6 rebounds per game and steals with 2.7 steals per game. Her 19.6 ppg ranks third in the ACC while she is 10th in rebounding and first in steals.

Marshall scored 609 points this season, while leading the Jackets to its seventh 20 win season and seventh NCAA Tournament appearance in the past eight seasons under coach Joseph. Marshall is the first Jacket to score 600 points in a single season and her 609 points is the school individual season record.

During conference play Marshall averaged 21.3 points per game and 7.6 rebounds per game. Marshall became Georgia Tech’s all-time leading scorer against #13/11 North Carolina on Feb. 6, 2014 after scoring 32 points against the Tar Heels to break Kisha Ford’s record of 1,955 points. She hit two free throws with 4.3 seconds left to break the record and secure the Jackets’ first win against a ranked opponent since 2012.

Marshall ranks second on Tech’s all-time steals list with 282 and fourth on Tech’s all-time rebounds list with 850. She has 21 career double-doubles and has scored in double digits in 112 of 131 career games. Marshall’s 41 career games with at least 20 points leads all active players in the ACC. She has 24 career double figure rebounding games and has led Georgia Tech in points 60 times and in rebounds 43 times in four years. Marshall has also garnered four ACC Player of the Week awards over the course of her career.
