Brigitte Ardossi Selected by Atlanta Dream in WNBA Draft

April 8, 2010

ATLANTA – Georgia Tech forward Brigitte Ardossi was selected in the second round of the WNBA draft by the Atlanta Dream Thursday afternoon.

Ardossi was selected 21st overall and was the Dreams’ second pick in the draft. The senior forward matched former Yellow Jacket standout Chioma Nnamaka as the highest Tech player to be selected in the draft.

“When I was a little girl my mom asked me to write down what I wanted to be when I grew up,” Ardossi said. “I wrote down that I would like to either play in the WNBA or become a veterinarian. I am thrilled that my dream is coming true.”

Ardossi is the fifth Yellow Jacket to be selected in the draft joining Nnamaka (San Antonio, second round, 2008), Kasha Terry (Indiana Fever, second round, 2006), Sonja Mallory (New York Liberty, second round, 2003) and Kisha Ford (New York Liberty, fourth round, 1997).

“I am thrilled for Brigitte and the Atlanta Dream franchise,” Georgia Tech head coach MaChelle Joseph said. “I honestly believe her work ethic and toughness separate her and will earn her a spot on their roster. I am so proud of her growth in our program over the past four year. “

The Melbourne, Australia native put together one of the most impressive senior seasons in Tech history. She led her team in scoring (16.1), rebounding (7.3) and steals (65), while earning All-ACC second team honors. She recorded six double-doubles and scored in double figures in 30 of Tech’s 33 games. She became just the 24th Yellow Jacket to score at least 1,000 points in a career on her last collegiate basket

She played in a school-record 130 games and started 82 of them during her career. Ardossi and fellow senior Tiffany Blackmon registered a program-best 88 wins in their four years on the Flats. Most recently, she was named the State of Georgia Women’s Basketball Player of the Year by the Atlanta Tipoff Club.
