THE FLATS – Kondalia Montgomery has signed a National Letter of Intent with the Georgia Tech women’s basketball team, head coach MaChelle Joseph announced today. Montgomery, a 5-7 guard, hails from Tacoma, Wash., where she attended Lincoln High School.

“I am very excited to add Kondalia to this outstanding class of student-athletes,” commented head coach MaChelle Joseph. “I have known her since she was 10 years old and have total confidence in her work ethic and desire to be the best she can be.”

Montgomery has helped Lincoln High School to three consecutive league titles and two district titles. In helping her high school to a trio of league titles, Montgomery has been named the league MVP in addition to the defensive player of the year. She was also tabbed most improved in her career. A South Sound All-Star Game participant, Montgomery served two years as a captain of her high school team.

Montgomery may be a familiar face around The Flats, as she is the younger sister to former Yellow Jacket and current WNBA player Alex Montgomery. The elder Montgomery lettered at Tech from 2008-11 before she was drafted 10th overall in the first round of the WNBA Draft by the New York Liberty in 2011.

“The future is very bright for this program and this class brings depth, size, speed and high basketball IQ to a talented group of returners.”

Montgomery joins Tech’s seventh-ranked recruiting class which features Elizabeth Balogun (Hamilton Heights/Lagos, Nigeria), Jasmine Carson (McEachern Powder Springs/Memphis, Tenn.), Elizabeth Dixon (Ridgeway/Memphis, Tenn.), D’Asia Gregg (Wilson/Florence, S.C.) and Lotta-Maj Lahtinen (Makelanrinne Sports High/Helsinki, Finland).
