THE FLATS – Three Georgia Tech women’s basketball student-athletes will represent the Yellow Jackets this summer after being invited to their respective national team trials. Francesca Pan and Lorela Cubaj will head home to Italy, while incoming freshman Elizabeth Dixon will head to U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado.
Pan, who has represented her home country on the Italian National Team multiple times, has been invited to the Senior National Team Trials in June. Teammate Cubaj, who competed in the FIBA U19 Women’s Basketball World Cup last summer, will head home for the U20 Italian National Team Trials, also in June.
Both Pan and Cubaj have no shortage of national team experience. Cubaj has participated on the Italian National Team four straight years, while Pan has been playing for the Italian National Team since 2013. Last summer, Pan joined the U20 Italian National Team at the FIBA U20 Women’s European Championship in Portugal.
On behalf of USA Basketball and the Junior National Team Committee, Dixon was invited to participate in the U18 National Team Trials held May 25-29 in Colorado Springs, Colo. The U18 National Team consists of 12 members who will participate in the 2018 FIBA Americas U18 Championship, the qualifying tournament for the 2019 FIBA U19 World Cup. The dates and location of the competition have yet to be decided.
Earlier this year, Dixon was named a McDonald’s All American and also represented the Jackets at the Jordan Brand Classic Game in Brooklyn, N.Y.
