Katarina recaps her trip to the Dominican Republic

Katrina’s Recap of the trip:
I’m so thankful for the opportunity to spend the past 5 days in the Dominican Republic with my fellow GT student-athletes! Still can’t believe we’ve built a house in 2.5 days! Had so much fun getting to know the Dominican community. They have taught us how you can be happy without having anything and to appreciate all the things you have in life. This was an amazing experience I will never forget!#GT2DR

Before leaving…
On Sunday, Katarina Vuckovic of the Georgia Tech women’s basketball team embarked on a service trip with her fellow student-athletes to the Dominican Republic. Vuckovic, a native of Smederevo, Serbia, just completed her second season on the Flats. She will document her experience on the service trip here on RamblinWreck.com. Also joining her on the trip is former women’s basketball player Shayla Bivins.

Vuckovic sat down with RamblinWreck.com to answer a few questions before she left of the Dominican Republic.

What interested you in going on this trip?
“It’s for a good cause. It’s a great opportunity to help people in need in a different country. We will also get to see their culture and get a different experience.”

Have you done a service trip like this before?
“No, I have not. I’m looking forward to doing a trip like this and traveling to a new place.”

As a student-athlete how important is it for you to give back by doing things like this trip and all of the community service you do both in and out of season?
“It’s important to use our platform as student-athletes to help others. I’m grateful to Georgia Tech for giving me this opportunity.”

What are you looking forward to most about this trip?
“I’m looking forward to helping a family in need out and interacting with the family and children when we are there. It will be a great opportunity.”
