Jackets in the WNBA Update

THE FLATS – Former Georgia Tech women’s basketball players Sasha Goodlett and Alex Montgomery are both in the beginning of their current WNBA seasons. Goodlett is in her first with the Chicago Sky while Montgomery is in her fourth season with the New York Liberty.

While just in her first season with the Chicago Sky, Goodlett has worked her way into the starting lineup, having started all nine games so far. As the Sky’s center, Goodlett is averaging 7.0 points per game and 4.4 rebounds per game. She plays an average of 21.4 minutes and has recorded 1.3 blocks per game. Her average of 1.3 blocks ranks her fifth in the WNBA while her 12 total blocks also has her at fifth.

Goodlett had an impressive performance in her first game in a Sky uniform against Indiana on May 16. Goodlett recorded a season-high nine points and grabbed a career-high 10 rebounds. She set her career-high in blocks against Connecticut this season, denying four shots.

Goodlett will make a return to the Flats two times this season with the Chicago Sky. The Atlanta Dream hosts Chicago on both July 13 and July 25 at McCamish Pavilion. The Chicago Sky plays at Washington on Friday at 6 p.m. and has a record of 5-4 this season.

Montgomery has seen action in all nine games so far with the Liberty, averaging 4.9 points per game and 3.0 rebounds per game. Montgomery is seeing an average of 18.6 minutes per game on the court for the Liberty in her third season. She is shooting 53 percent from the floor and 54 percent from behind the 3-poin line.

This season, Montgomery scored a season-high 13 points against Washington in an 81-64 win. She also set her season-high in rebounding against the Mystics, pulling down seven boards on June 8. New York is 3-6 so far this season and plays Connecticut at 7:30 p.m. this Friday at Madison Square Garden.

Montgomery and New York take a trip to Atlanta to play the Dream on June 20 and August 3.

Both Montgomery and Goodlett are two of eight Jackets that have been drafted to the WNBA. The two are also the only two Jackets that have been taken in the first round of the WNBA draft and are two of six players under head coach MaChelle Joseph to have been drafted.
