Lorela Cubaj Signs Grant-in-Aid for 2017-18 Season

THE FLATS — Italian native Lorela Cubaj has signed a grant-in-aid agreement with Georgia Tech for the 2017-18 season, head coach MaChelle Joseph announced Monday afternoon.

“Lorela is an impact player,” commented Joseph. “She is a versatile post with a complete skill set. She has played the game at the highest level internationally and has established herself as an elite level prospect. We are excited to have Lorela join our Georgia Tech family. We look forward to seeing the impact she will make on our program.”

Cubaj, a native of Terni, Italy, has been a member of the Italian National Team several times and, in just her first European Championship in 2013, helped lead the team to the semi-finals. Additionally, the 6’4″ post player has been a member of the Italian National Team in 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017.

Currently competing with both the U18 and U19 Italian National Teams this summer. With the U19 Italian National Team, Cubaj will head to the FIBA U19 Women’s Basketball World Cup to be held July 22-30 in Udine and Cividale del Friuli, Italy.

Cubaj comes to The Flats as the 14th-ranked player in Italy and joins Tech’s 12th-ranked recruiting class. Cubaj was ranked the No. 2 international prospect by ProspectsNation.com.
