Women's Basketball Tips Off Season Welcoming Samford Friday

THE FLATS -- The Georgia Tech women's basketball season officially gets underway on Friday, Nov. 11 when the Yellow Jackets welcome Samford to McCamish Pavilion at 5:30 p.m.

PARKING NOTICE
Friday's opener is part of a doubleheader with the men's basketball team. Due to the doubleheader, parking for the women's basketball game will be available in the Family Housing parking deck. Parking will be free and the deck opens at 4 p.m. For fans needing accessible parking, spaces will be available on Fowler Street between 6th and 8th Street. Accessible parking is available for $20 on Friday. Men's basketball patrons that have been issued a parking permit for the men's game can use their parking permit to attend the women's game.

STARTING FIVE
1.Georgia Tech opens the 2016-17 season facing Samford for just the fourth time in program history on Friday. Tech owns a perfect 3-0 record against the Bulldogs with both wins coming in Atlanta. The first win took place in 1998 with the most recent meeting occurring in 2015.
2. Georgia Tech enters Friday's contest with an all-time record of 31-11 on opening day. Additionally, the Yellow Jackets are 12-1 in season openers under head coach MaChelle Joseph. Tech is 24-5 since 1978-79 when opening the season at home.
3. Head coach MaChelle Joseph begins her 14th season on The Flats Friday night carrying an all-time career record of 252-162. Joseph is the all-time winningest coach in program history and holds the highest winning percentage in Yellow Jacket history at 60.9 percent.
4. The 2016-17 season marks the 43rd season of Georgia Tech women's basketball. The Yellow Jackets return seven letterwinners and three starters from last year's team that went 20-13 overall, 8-8 in ACC league play and reached the second round of the WNIT.
5. Georgia Tech returns seven letterwinners from last season and welcomes five freshmen to the roster. In addition, Cha'Ron Sweeney (transfer graduate student from Eastern Michigan) joined the roster and both Elo Edeferioka and Kaylan Pugh will be eligible to play this season after transferring in last season.

-Move Georgia Tech to 32-11 all-time on opening day
-Push Coach Joseph's record to 13-1 all-time for season openers and 10-1 in home openers
-Mark the 253rd win of Coach Joseph's career and her 416th game at the helm of the Yellow Jackets
-Be the 628th all-time program win in Georgia Tech women's basketball history and move the Yellow Jackets to 628-589 overall
-Keep Tech's record against Samford unblemished and move the all-time series record to 4-0 in favor of the Yellow Jackets
