“We have to be more consistent day to day,” head coach Shelly Hoerner said. “We have to be more consistent in every aspect of the game including our energy. We had a lot of energy yesterday and not the same level today. We feed off of that. We’ve got to go home and prepare again for Syracuse tomorrow and it’s a big game for us. Syracuse is a good team and we have to come out and play Georgia Tech softball.”

How It Happened
Syracuse struck first in the third with a solo shot to left. The Orange added four runs on three hits in the fourth to take a 5-0 lead.

In the sixth inning, Syracuse tacked on a run to make it 6-0, but the Jackets’ bats warmed up to plate a pair in the bottom of the frame.

Katie Krzus singled, followed by walks drawn by Malea Bell and Draven Sonnon. With the bases full and two outs, Colleen Darragh came through with a single to left to bring in Krzus. Kendall Chadwick drew a bases loaded walk to bring in Bell. After a pitching change for Syracuse, the Orange closed the door on Tech’s rally.

Tech starter Brooke Barfield (3-7) suffered loss after throwing 3.2 innings with five runs on five hits. Jenna Goodrich threw the remaining 3.1 innings, limiting the Orange to one run on one hit.

Katie Krzus went 2-for-3 with a walk and a run for the Jackets, while six different Yellow Jackets drew walks. Coming into the weekend Tech was third in the ACC in walks and have 10 games with at least five walks this season.

Syracuse starter Alexa Romero (6-3) earned the win after pitching 5.2 innings. She was relieved in the sixth by Sydney O’Hara who earned her seventh save of the season.
