March 22, 2012

Box Score

LAFAYETTE, La. – After battling in game one, the Georgia Tech softball team fell in game two 10-2 to No. 8 Louisiana-Lafayette in front of a crowd of 1,280 at Lamson Park.

Tech (19-16) was only able to manage one hit during the game, an infield single by Danielle Dike, who was 1-for-1 on the night. Christi Orgeron was 1-for-2 for the Ragin Cajuns (28-0) with a fifth-inning grand slam to help them remain perfect in 2012

Tech once again jumped out to a 2-0 lead, this time thanks in part to the ULL pitching. Ashley Thomas led things off with a walk, Kelsi Weseman was hit by a pitch, and Alysha Rudnik drew a walk to load the bases. A wild pitch by the ULL starting pitcher Ashley Brignac scored Thomas and a groundout to third by Karly Fullem drove in Weseman.

Tech held that lead until the bottom of the second when the Ragin Cajuns put three up on the board using three hits to steal the lead from Tech. ULL added another to its lead in the fourth as the leadoff walk came around to score on a sacrifice fly to right field.

La-Lafayette added to its lead in the fifth as three-straight infield singles loaded the bases for Christi Orgeron who blasted a grand slam to right centerfield for the 8-2 lead. A bases loaded walk, and a single to right centerfield ended things in the fifth as the Cajuns walked off with the run rule victory.

The Jackets will take the weekend off and return to action with a midweek game against Kennesaw State on Wednesday, March 28 at 6 p.m.
