ORLANDO, Fla. – The UCF softball team (23-13) escaped Georgia Tech (12-17) with a 1-0 win Wednesday evening at the UCF Softball Complex.

How It Happened.
In the bottom of the second, UCF loaded the bases with two outs and managed to score a run before Georgia Tech got out of the jam on a groundout to second.

The Jackets put a runner on base in each of the second, fourth, and fifth innings.

Georgia Tech threatened in the seventh inning, Courtney Ziese and Draven Sonnon hit back-to-back singles to start the inning. Sydney Stavro entered the game to run for Ziese as Darragh stepped to the plate and flew out to deep centerfield, allowing the runners to advance a base. Georgia Tech couldn’t cash the runners in as UCF retired the next two batters.

Jenna Goodrich (4-7) suffered the loss after allowing one run on five hits with three walks and four strikeouts in five innings pitched. Emily Anderson pitched one inning of scoreless hitless relief.

Manami Calixto (6-0) earned the win and Jamie Ujvari earned her fourth save.

Quote
“When you play good teams you’ve got to bring your A game and you’ve got to execute in critical situations,” head coach Shelly Hoerner said. “One-run games are fun games to play. You’ve got to come up and be able to execute in key situations and we fell short on that tonight.

“I give UCF a lot of credit. They played a good game. I thought we played well, but we fell a little short.”
