THE FLATS – In front of a capacity crowd at Mewborn Field, Georgia Tech softball (19-16) held No. 5/6 Georgia (33-4) to just one run on Wednesday night, falling 1-0.

Head coach Aileen Morales says:
“Tonight was another step in the right direction for our program. We showed again that we can compete against a top-10 team. Anderson threw to the best offense in the nation and held them to only one run – that’s impressive. I’m proud overall of how we competed and battled each inning, eventually those timely hits will fall.”

How it happened:
The game was a defensive duel. Both teams remained scoreless heading into the top of the fifth with a combined five hits. Senior Emily Anderson got the start in the circle for the Jackets. Georgia made its way onto the board in the top of the fifth with a solo shot over left field to take the lead at 1-0.

The run would be the only one of the game with freshman Cameron Stanford making a couple diving catches in left field to keep the Jackets in it. Anderson was landed with the loss, giving up six hits and tallying six strikeouts and allowing only one walk.

Up next:
The Jackets kick off a seven-game road swing with a three-game ACC series at Duke in Durham, N.C., Friday-Sunday, April 6-8. All three games will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra.
