CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — The Georgia Tech softball team (14-29, 5-13 ACC) fell, 5-0, at North Carolina (31-10, 13-3) Sunday afternoon in the series finale. The Jackets continue their 12-game road swing on Wednesday with a single game at Jacksonville State. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. ET.

“We did limit the walks, which is a good thing moving forward, but we just have to be able to string hits together and be able to execute,” head coach Shelly Hoerner said. “We’re not executing with runners in scoring position and we have to do that in order to win games.”

The Tar Heels loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the second. North Carolina managed to score its first run on a Georgia Tech fielding error to get on the board first.

North Carolina got its second run on Amber Parrish’s solo shot to left in the third inning to go up 2-0.

The Yellow Jackets had their best chance to score in the top of the fifth inning. Colleen Darragh dropped a single into shallow left for Tech’s first hit of the game, and Kelsey Chisholm singled through the left side with two outs, but the Jackets couldn’t cash in the runners.

The Tar Heels stretched their lead to 5-0 in the bottom of the fifth frame thanks to a solo home run by Kristen Brown and a two-run shot off the bat of Kendra Lynch.

In the bottom of the sixth, North Carolina loaded the bases with one out. Tech reliever Christina Biggerstaff fanned the next two batters to get out of the jam.

Georgia Tech starter Kylie Kleinschmidt (5-19) suffered the loss, pitching 4.0 innings with three runs, two earned on four hits.

North Carolina’s Sydney Matzko (12-4) earned the win, throwing 5.0 innings with no runs and two hits.
