Softball Splits Doubleheader at Boston College

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. — The Georgia Tech softball team (16-30; 6-14 ACC) split a pair of games Saturday afternoon at Boston College (18-19, 2-12), winning game one 10-2 in five innings before falling in game two, 1-0. The rubber game is set for Sunday at 11 a.m.

Game 1: Georgia Tech 10, Boston College 2 (5)
The Jackets scored 10 runs on 10 hits in the first game. Georgia Tech took a 3-2 lead into the fourth inning and exploded for seven runs on six hits, including two home runs to take the 10-2 advantage.

Colleen Darragh’s home run to straight away center for her third home run of the season scored pinch runner Draven Sonnon who entered the game after Courtney Ziese drew a leadoff walk.

Lionberger and Kelsey Chisholm extended the inning with back-to-back hits and scored with two outs on Morgan Taylor’s pinch-hit double to left, stretching Tech’s lead to 7-2.

Katie Johnsky drew a walk and Karly Fullem stepped to the plate. She rocked her sixth home run of the season to bring in three more runs and give Tech a 10-2 advantage.

In the bottom of the second inning the Eagles got on the board first thanks to a two-run home run by Tatiana Cortez.

The Jackets retaliated in the top of the third. Colleen Darragh walked and Maddie Lionberger reached on a single up the middle. With two on and one out, Samantha Pierannunzi ripped a pitch to left and a Boston College error on the play brought in two runs for Georgia Tech.

Chelsie Thomas’ blooper over the infield plated Pierannunzi for Tech’s third run of the inning and gave Tech a 3-2 lead.

Kylie Kleinschmidt (6-19) earned the win, surrendering two runs on three hits with seven strikeouts in five innings.

Jessica Dreswick (2-5) absorbed the loss and allowed six runs on six hits in 3.1 innings pitched.

Game 2: Boston College 1, Georgia Tech 0
The second game was a pitcher’s duel with just five hits allowed between the two pitchers. Georgia Tech starter Christina Biggerstaff (7-6) suffered the loss, yielding just one run on three hits while striking out 11.

Boston College starter Allyson Frei (13-12) pitched a complete game and allowed just two hits for the win.

The Eagles scored the only run of the game in the fourth inning on two hits.
