THE FLATS – A solo shot to left field in the bottom of the sixth by Kelsey Chisholm powered Georgia Tech Softball (14-30) past the Georgia Southern Eagles (21-20) with the 12-4, walk-off run-rule win on Wednesday evening at Mewborn Field.

“I thought as an overall team we produced well at the plate,” said head coach Shelly Hoerner. “We had timely hitting and good defense. We threw well on the mound and when you put all that together it equals a great team win. It was a great win to give us momentum into the weekend at Boston College.”

How it Happened
The Eagles struck first, dinging a home run off the second pitch of the game to go up1-0 in the first. The Jackets retaliated in the bottom of the first when Katie Krzus hit a two-run bomb to left field scoring Samantha Pierannunzi who reached on a walk.

The Jackets took that lead into the bottom of the third inning with bats blazing. Pierannunzi stepped up with Jessica Kowalewicz on base having singled to first. Pierannunzi sent one out to right field, scoring Kowalewicz and taking the 4-1 lead. Malea Bell scored from second off a single from Kaylee Ellebracht after reaching base on a walk and stealing second. Chisholm scored on a wild pitch, reaching base on a walk to push the score to 6-1.

The Eagles responded in the top of the fifth, scoring two off of a home run to bring the tally to 6-4, but Emily Anderson silenced their bats from there.

The Jackets’ bats again answered the Eagles’ offense. Krzus and Bell singled up the middle before advancing on a sacrifice bunt from Draven Sonnon. Chisolm banged a double down the left field line, plating Krzus and Bell.

Another single from Ellebracht scored Chisholm. As Rachael Bonitatibus came in to pinch run for Ellebracht at second, Colleen Darragh walked and Kendall Chadwick was hit by a pitch to load the bases.

Bonitatiubus scored on a balk, and Krzus drilled her fourth hit of the game, a single, scoring Darragh and making the score 11-4.

Anderson held the Eagles scoreless in the top of the sixth, setting the scene for the walk off victory. A solo shot from Chisholm to left field ended the game with a walk-off run-rule win in the bottom of the sixth.

Anderson (6-11) earned the win after surrendering four runs on seven hits in six innings. The Eagles used three pitchers in the loss with starter Dixie Raley (12-14) as the pitcher of record after throwing the first two innings with four runs on four hits.
