THE FLATS - The Georgia Tech softball team (22-33, 7-16 ACC) dropped a pair of games, 8-3 and 7-1, to North Carolina (30-22, 13-11) Sunday afternoon at Mewborn Field.

"Obviously, it's not the way we wanted to end our season, but I can say I'm very proud of the team for continuing to fight to the very last out," head coach Shelly Hoerner said. "They did that in all three games. They left it all on the field. I have a saying that if you leave it all out on the field, we can't ask for anything else. And I believe they did that.

"Hats off to North Carolina. Kendra Lynch pitched three great games, and she hit well. She's been a great spot for their team, and I wish them all the luck in the conference tournament and postseason play."

Game 1: North Carolina 8, Georgia Tech 3
North Carolina was quick out of the gate in the top of the first with three runs on a sac fly from Kristen Brown and a two-run homer from Berlynne Delamora. Samantha Pierannunzi led off the bottom half with a double, and the Jackets would load the bases with two outs. However, Tech came up empty with a groundout to end the frame.

UNC added to the lead with in the top of the second with a solo shot from Lauren Fuller, making it 4-0 with her third homer of the season. An error on a failed pickoff attempt made it 5-0, as Aquilla Mateen scored from third. One more came in on a single from Kendra Lynch, but Brown was tagged out at the plate to end the inning, leaving the score at 6-0.

Kaylee Ellebracht put the Jackets on the board in the bottom of the second with a deep shot to left center to make it 6-2. It was Ellebracht's first homer of her career. Jessica Kowalewicz scored on an error at the plate later in the frame to make it 6-3.

Game 2: North Carolina 7, Georgia Tech 1
A bases-loaded single from Taylor Wike gave the Tar Heels a 2-0 lead in the top of the third.
