THE FLATS – Entering a key two-week stretch, the Georgia Tech softball team (21-24, 6-6 ACC) is set to face the top two teams in the ACC in No. 25 North Carolina (34-15, 10-5) and No. 23 Florida State in back-to-back weekends.

Up first for the Jackets is a three-game series in Chapel Hill, N.C., beginning Sunday with a doubleheader at 1 p.m. The series finale between the Jackets and Tar Heels is set for Monday night at 7 p.m. on ESPNU with Adam Amin and Amanda Scarborough on the call.

Tech takes on No. 23 Florida State the following weekend with a three-game home series. The Seminoles are 34-15 overall and 13-2 in ACC play. FSU leads the league in both batting average (.308) and ERA (2.04).

Tech leads the all-time series 31-30 against the Tar Heels. Last season, the Jackets dropped two games to North Carolina, 3-2 and 6-4.

Georgia Tech enters the weekend with a .291 team batting average. Ashley Thomas leads the team and the ACC with a .434 hitting clip. She also leads the league with 63 hits and 28 stolen bases. In addition to Thomas, four Jackets are batting above .300.

The Jackets picked up two wins Thursday against Southern Miss thanks in particular to solid pitching from Hope Rush and Kylie Kleinschmidt. Rush is 11-12 in the circle with a 3.52 ERA and Kleinschmidt is 5-4 with a 6.19 ERA.

The Tar Heels are currently second in the ACC standings. They lead the ACC with a .975 fielding percentage and rank second with a .298 team batting average.

Constance Orr leads Carolina, batting .348 with 42 RBIs on 48 hits while scoring 27 runs. Haleigh Dickey (.317) has 34 RBIs on 44 hits, including 10 homers this season to set the UNC career home run record with 41.

In the circle for the Tar Heels, Lori Spingola (23-11) has a 2.39 ERA with an ACC-leading 238 strikeouts in 214 innings pitched. Spingola has been named the ACC Pitcher of the Week three times this season.
