June 4, 2015

THE FLATS — Georgia Tech softball signee, Jenna Goodrich, was named the 2015 Florida Gatorade Player of the Year. Goodrich is a right handed pitcher from Davie, Fla. and signed an NLI to join the Yellow Jackets in 2016.

“This is a great honor for Jenna,” head Georgia Tech softball coach Shelly Hoerner said.”Her hard work, passion and determination have helped her achieve this recognition. I am excited about the demeanor and winning mentality she will bring to our softball program here at Georgia Tech.”

As a senior at American Heritage High School, Goodrich posted a 15-1 record in the circle along with a 0.38 ERA, leading the Patriots (25-2-1) to the Class 5A state championship game. Goodrich struck out 148 batters in 92 innings pitched, allowing just 25 hits and 21 walks while throwing four no-hitters.

At the plate, the 2015 Miami Herald Player of the Year batted .471 with three home runs, 31 RBI and a .743 slugging percentage. She also plays on a top travel ball team in Florida — the Gold Coast Hurricanes.

In the classroom, Goodrich maintained a 3.73 GPA. Goodrich served as a student manager and athletic trainer with the American Heritage High football team, where she directed the sports program at a Cub Scout day camp for the Boy Scouts of America and volunteered locally at the Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital.

The Gatorade State Softball Players of the Year were selected based on athletic production and impact in the 2014-15 season.
