Softball Gathering Supplies for Puerto Rico

Sept. 29, 2017

THE FLATS – To aid in the relief efforts in Puerto Rico due to the recent devastation from Hurricane Maria, Georgia Tech softball is soliciting the donation of goods to send to the people of Puerto Rico at the remaining fall games.

Fans are encouraged to bring goods to be donated to the remaining six games in the Yellow Jackets’ fall schedule. Donation boxes will be on site for the remainder of the team’s competitions on Oct. 1, Oct. 7 and Oct. 14. Play on each day starts at 1 p.m. at Mewborn Field.

The team is not collecting monetary donations but instead is asking for goods such as:
- Canned goods
- Batteries (AA, AAA, D)
- Battery operated fans
- Clothing items
- Bottled water
- Toiletries (shampoo, soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste)
- Baby wipes
- Diapers

“Being of Puerto Rico descent, this is a cause that is close to my heart,” said head coach Aileen Morales. “Not only that, but knowing that my family and friends are struggling to find access to potable water or food is heartbreaking. Our players and coaching staff feel strongly that this is an opportunity to use our voice and resources to help. Please help by making tangible donations at any of our remaining fall games.”

“We were fortunate enough to get to play in Puerto Rico last season and it was a great experience,” said senior Kendall Chadwick. “We want to do our part to give back and help the families that were affected by the devastating hurricane. We are hoping the Georgia Tech community can help us in these efforts.”
