CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The No. 33 Georgia Tech women’s tennis team (7-5, 2-1) topped Boston College (6-7, 1-5) 6-1 on Sunday afternoon at the Flynn Complex.
“We played well today against a very tough opponent, especially on their home court,” head coach Rodney Harmon said. “I thought we played extremely well on the road. Boston College had just come off a really good win against No. 19 Clemson. Our girls came out and accepted the challenge and played some really good tennis.”
The Yellow Jackets recorded two wins in doubles to secure the doubles point for the seventh time this season. Georgia Tech is 7-0 when winning the first point of the match. On court two, junior Rasheeda McAdoo and sophomore Johnnise Renaud recorded their ninth doubles victory of the dual match season, defeating Katya Vasilyev and Emily Safron, 6-2.
The #27-ranked duo of senior Kendal Woodard and sophomore Paige Hourigan edged Lexi Borr and Jackie Urbaniti 7-6 (7-2) on court one for their third-straight doubles victory.
The Yellow Jackets won five of the six doubles matches against the Eagles. Both Renaud and Hourigan won in straight-sets against their opponents. Renaud, who checks in at No. 37 in the singles rankings, won 6-1, 6-4 against Borr on court one. On the neighboring court, Hourgian won her third match against a ranked opponent, defeating No. 70 Dair, 6-4, 6-4.
On courts three and four, McAdoo and Woodard both recorded comeback wins, winning in three sets after falling in set one. No. 74 McAdoo recorded a 4-6, 6-0, 6-4 victory against Vasilyev while Woodard took down Safron 3-6, 6-2, 6-1.
After winning four singles matches, the remaining two courts just played one set. Prokopuik rolled to an 8-1 victory against Urbanati in her match on court five while Prokhnevska fell 8-6 to Ren on court six.
The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Friday at home against Syracuse at 3 p.m.
