Chestnut Hill, Mass. – The No. 21 ranked Georgia Tech women’s tennis team (9-7, 3-2 ACC) finished off its five-match road trip with a 5-2 win over the No. 62 Boston College Eagles (7-8, 1-4 ACC) Saturday afternoon.

The win over the Eagles was the Yellow Jackets’ fourth win of the trip.

“It was great to finish our road trip with a win,” assistant coach Alison Silverio said. “Today was definitely a strong finish for us. Overall, it was a successful trip. As a team, we talked a lot about leadership, character and what it’s going to take for us to continue to achieve success this season. I think we were able to accomplish some things during this spring break trip. We can certainly take a lot of positives from this road trip.

“To finish as strong as we did today and compete as well as we did was great to see from our standpoint as coaches,” Silverio added. “We’re excited to see what the rest of our upcoming ACC matches have in store for us.”

Senior Viet Ha Ngo and sophomore Muriel Wacker gave Tech the early edge in doubles play by claiming an 8-3 win over Ina Kauppila on court three. The Eagles tied the doubles score when the 62nd-ranked team of Jessica Wacnik and Erina Kikuchi downed the Jackets’ pair of senior Lynn Blau and Elizabeth Kilborn 8-5 on court two.

The first team point of the day came down to No. 1 doubles and a pair of ranked teams. Tech’s side of ninth-ranked Jillian O’Neill and Alex Anghelescu battled past BC’s 36th-ranked tandem of Alex Kelleher and Olga Khmylev for a 9-7 victory, putting Georgia Tech up 1-0 heading into singles play.

O’Neill earned her second victory of the day and gave the Jackets a 2-0 lead. She beat Kikuchi 6-2 in the first set before the BC senior retired.

The Eagles earned their first point of the day when Wacnik topped Kilborn, ranked No. 86, 6-1, 6-2 on court two. Anghelescu extended Tech’s lead to 3-1 with a 6-3, 6-4 win on court five over Khmylev.

Blau, a senior, clinched the Yellow Jacket team victory with a hard-fought 4-6, 6-1, 7-5 win on court six over BC’s Kelly Berry.

BC and Tech split the final two matches of the day. The Eagles’ Gajic bested the Jackets’ Ngo, 5-7, 7-6(4), 1-0(7) on court three before Tech freshman Jasmine Minor earned her own three-set win, 4-6, 7-5, 6-4 over BC’s Kelleher.

“We came out strong in the doubles and Boston College pushed us to our limits again in doubles and in singles,” Silverio said. “We were able to stay tough, compete and able to take ownership on a lot of our courts today and take care of business. All in all, it was a great day and a successful trip. We’re going to take this momentum into our home stretch of the regular season.”

The Jackets will be back in action Friday and Sunday of this week when they host a pair of highly ranked foes from the Old North State. Tech will take on No. 11 North Carolina in a 2:30 p.m. match Friday and No. 5 Duke at noon Sunday in the Yellow Jackets’ annual “Serve for the Cure” match to raise money and awareness for breast cancer.
