Hourigan, Jones Cruise Into NCAA Quarterfinals

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Georgia Tech’s No. 1 ranked doubles pair of Paige Hourigan and Kenya Jones secured a spot in the NCAA Doubles Championship quarterfinals, collecting a straight set win in the round of 16 Friday afternoon.

SINGLES UPDATE: Also competing in the round of 16 singles, No. 14 Hourigan faced sixth-seeded Arianne Hartono of Ole Miss on Friday. The Rebel collected the first set 6-1 and held strong in the second set for a 6-2 victory.

Hourigan capped her senior season with a 24-13 overall singles record, including a 16-10 dual singles mark. The Turakina, New Zealand native competed in the NCAA Tournament all four years as a Yellow Jacket and was a four-time all-ACC selection. Hourigan helped Tech reach a national ranking of No. 2 and rose as high as No. 12 nationally in singles during her career.

DOUBLES UPDATE: Tech’s top-ranked pair of Hourigan and Kenya Jones secured a spot in the quarterfinals on Saturday, picking up a straight set win over Loyola Marymount’s No. 18 Veronica Miroshnichnko and Eva Marie Voracek. Tech pulled out with a 4-2 lead in the first set and pocketed a 6-2 win to take the early lead. The Jackets wasted no time in the second set, opening with a 3-0 lead before pushing out with a 4-1 advantage. Jones served out the match securing a 6-1 second set win to advance to the quarterfinals.

UP NEXT: The Jackets will meet a familiar foe in the quarterfinals on Saturday as they face North Carolina’s No. 33 Alle Sanford and Sara Daavettila.
