@GT_WTEN Has Strong Showing on Day 2 of GT Invite

THE FLATS – Five members of the Georgia Tech women’s tennis team went undefeated on the second day of the Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket Invitational at the Ken Byers Tennis Complex.

The Yellow Jackets won all three doubles matches against Georgia State and tallied five singles wins against N.C. State.  

For the second day in a row, the Yellow Jackets won all three doubles matches. On court one, the duo of freshman Paige Hourigan and sophomore Rasheeda McAdoo defeated Georgia State’s Masa Grgan and Marcia Tere-Apisah, 6-2. Sophomore Alexa Anton-Ohlmeyer and freshman Alexis Prokopuik captured a, 6-4, win on court three against Linn Timmermann and Veroknika Golanova.

Junior Natasha Prokhnevska and freshman Johnnise Renaud edged Niriantsa Rasolomalala and Tarani Kamoe, 7-5, on court two to make Tech a perfect 3-0 in doubles on day two.

Renaud, McAdoo and Prokhnevska all won their second-straight matches of the weekend in singles play when the Jackets faced N.C. State. Renaud cruised to a, 6-1, 6-1 victory on court one against Joanna Nalborska while McAdoo defeated Liza Fieldsend, 6-2, 6-4, at the number two position.

After winning set one, 6-4, #118-ranked Prokhnevska fell in set two, 6-1, to Elisha Hande. Prokhnevska battled back in set three to win, 7-5.

Hourigan and Prokopuik each recorded their first wins as Yellow Jackets. Hourigan won against Sophie Nelson, 7-5, 6-3, on court three. Prokopuik was victorious against Tayla Stenta on court six, 6-2, 6-4.

Anton-Ohlmeyer fell just short to Natalia Janowicz in the first set, 7-6, but rebounded to win set two, 6-3. Janowicz came back to win set three, 6-3, on court five.

Doubles action tomorrow begins at 9 a.m. at the Ken Byers Tennis Complex on the final day of the Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket Invitational. Georgia Tech will face LSU in doubles and Georgia State in singles tomorrow.
