Jackets Advance on Saturday at ITA Southeast Regionals

ATHENS, Ga. — Georgia Tech women’s tennis advanced two doubles pairs into the semifinals and three Yellow Jackets secured spots in the quarterfinals of singles play after Saturday’s action at the ITA Southeast Regionals. The tournament is being held at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex at the University of Georgia.

Doubles play opened the day in Athens and the Jackets secured two spots in the semifinals. The top-seeded duo of Paige Hourigan/Kenya Jones, ranked No. 3 in the preseason ITA poll, notched an 8-3 victory over Ksenia Kuznetsova/Maria Martinez (UCF) in the round of 16 before cruising past Andrea Garcia/Petra Hule of Florida State, 8-2, to claim a semifinal spot.

The Tech duo of Ida Jarlskog/Johnnise Renaud also picked up a pair of wins on Saturday, grabbing an 8-3 decision over Rafaela Gomes/Luise Intert (UNF) in the round of 16 before topping the No. 33-ranked tandem of Nandini Das/Ariana Rahmanparast (FSU), 8-4, in the quarters.

In the consolation bracket, Victoria Flores and Nami Otsuka defeated Marta Gonzalez/Annette Goulak (UGA), 8-3, and will play another backdraw match on Sunday.

The round of 16 singles was played on Saturday and three Jackets earned spots in the quarterfinals. Third-seeded No. 23 Renaud dropped just five games en route to a 6-3, 6-2 win over Petra Hule of Florida State, while classmate No. 49 Hourigan pocketed a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Kristen Rehse (GST). Newcomer Flores continued her impressive fall campaign, also earning a spot in the quarterfinals with a 7-6 (3), 6-1 triumph over Annette Goulak (UGA).

Three Jackets concluded play in singles this afternoon, falling in the round of 16. Otsuka dropped a 6-4, 6-3 match against No. 11 Estela Perez-Somarriba (UM), Jarlskog fell 6-3, 6-4 to Katarina Jokic (UGA) and Jones lost a 6-3, 6-3 match to No. 15 Anna Danilina (UF). Nadia Gizdova picked up a backdraw consolation singles match, 6-2, 7-6 (6), over Celine Schepers (MU) before falling to Gabrielle Goldin (FSU), 6-2, 6-4.

Tech returns to the court on Sunday in both singles and doubles play. Two rounds of singles and one round of doubles are scheduled to be played tomorrow.
