Prokhnevska Goes 3-0 on Day One of Fall Classic

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – On the first day of the Roberta Alison Fall Classic, the Georgia Tech women’s tennis team went 5-1 in singles and 1-1 in doubles play. Sophomore Natasha Prokhnevska went undefeated during day one action.

Prokhnevska and doubles partner senior Muriel Wacker started off the morning with an 8-4 win against Jamie Grinberg and Yasmin Franco of UNC Greensboro in the Alexa Guarachi Doubles Draw. The win pairs them against Nida Hamilton and Brooke Rischbieth of Northwestern tomorrow.

Against Furman’s Blair Martin and Margaret Boyette, freshmen Alexa Anton-Ohlmeyer and Rasheeda McAdoo fell, 8-2 in the Bianca Svensson Draw. The freshman duo will face Timea Guibe/Roseline Dion of Mississippi State on the consolation side of the bracket tomorrow.

The final two rounds of doubles will be played tomorrow, starting at 9 a.m.

Prokhnevska will play in the Weyli Change Singles Draw, facing off against Rachel Daniell of UAB. In the Courtney McLane Singles Draw, Anton-Ohlmeyer pairs up against Michigan’s Annie Wierda. McAdoo faces Samford’s Jessica Northcutt in the Ashley Bentley Singles Draw.

In her first singles match in the Weyli Change Singles draw, Prokhnevska defeated UAB’s Rachel Daniell in three sets, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3. Prokhnevska edged Northwestern’s Lissie Barnett, 7-5, 7-5 to advance to the draw’s final match.

McAdoo went 2-0 in the Ashley Bentley Singles Draw. In her first round matchup, McAdoo defeated Samford’s Jessica Northcutt, 6-3, 6-3. Her next match was against Lok Sze Leung of Northwestern, 6-1, 6-1, to also advance to the finals of her draw.

After suffering a setback in her first match with a loss to Michigan’s Annie Wierda, 6-4, 6-2, Anton-Ohlmeyer bounced back with a win against Karlee Bryde of Furman. Anton-Ohlmeyer defeated Bryde, 6-1, 6-1 in the Courtney McLane Singles Draw.

There will be one final round of singles played tomorrow afternoon.
