The #57 Georgia Tech women’s tennis team (5-6, 2-3 ACC) wraps up its home stand on Sunday when it hosts #32 Notre Dame (9-5, 4-2 ACC) at noon at the Ken Byers Tennis Complex.

Scouting the Opponent
#32 Notre Dame (9-5, 4-2 ACC)
Series: Georgia Tech leads, 6-4
The Yellow Jackets won the first four meetings against the Fighting Irish, in a series that started in 2007, but one have picked up two ins in the last six meetings. Last season, the Jackets defeated #22 Notre Dame, 4-3, in South Bend. The Irish are 4-2 in the ACC, picking up wins against Louisville, Pittsburgh, Syracuse and Boston College, while falling to Virginia and North Carolina. The Irish visit Florida State on Friday before traveling to the Flats. The Irish have two doubles duos ranked – Quinn Gleason and Monica Robinson check in at #21 while Julie Vrabel and Allison Miller are ranked at number 55.

Spotlight on Paige Hourigan
Freshman Paige Hourigan is the #64 ranked singles player in the ITA and is a part of the #35 doubles duo, alongside doubles partner Kendal Woodard. Hourigan has gone 2-3 in ACC play in singles, including picking up a 6-2, 6-2 win on court two against Florida State. Hourigan and Woodard are undefeated in doubles in dual matches at 5-0. The duo have gone 2-0 on court one and 3-0 on court two and picked up a win against the #25 ranked doubles pair of Gabriella De Santis and Snay Niehaus of Ohio State.

Ranked Opponents
Out of Georgia Tech’s 11 dual match opponents, nine have been ranked in the top 75 of the ITA’s weekly rankings. The Yellow Jackets have faced four top-20 teams, including the #1 team, North Carolina, and #3 Georgia. Tech’s next two opponents are ranked – #32 Notre Dame and #26 Northwestern.

ACC Standings
The #57 Jackets currently are tied for seventh in the ACC standings after competing in five ACC matches thus far. #1 North Carolina, #14 Miami and #20 Duke are tied for first with 5-0 records while #5 Virginia has a 4-0 conference record. #15 Clemson has posted a 4-1 record and #28 Notre Dame is 4-2 so far. Georgia Tech is tied with Virginia Tech, Boston College and Florida State.

Who clinched the match?
In Georgia Tech’s five wins this season, four different Yellow Jackets have clinched the deciding point. Junior clinched a team-best two matches at the number three singles spot against #59 South Florida and NC State. Sophomore also clinched a match on court three, defeating her opponent against #18 Columbia. Freshman won the deciding match against #31 Tennessee on court one. Most recently, junior win on court four against Louisville secured Georgia Tech’s victory.

Dominant in Doubles
The Yellow Jackets have won the doubles point in eight of 11 matches and are 5-3 when winning the doubles point. The Jackets are 0-3 when losing the doubles point. Tech won the doubles point against #38 Columbia, #59 USF, #31 Tennessee, NC State and Louisville on its way to winning the match. The Jackets won the doubles point against #19 Oklahoma State, #3 Georgia and #67 Florida State but fell in those matches.

Jackets in the Rankings
The Yellow Jackets fell back a few spots to #57 in this week’s ITA rankings after being ranked #51 last week. The Jackets have two singles players and three doubles duos ranked.

Freshman checks in at #64 in the singles rankings this week. Hourigan is 4-1 on court two in singles and is 6-3 in dual match play. She has gone 2-2 on court one. Freshman is the #92 ranked singles player. Renaud 4-7 so far this spring and has played at both the number one and two positions.

Hourigan and junior check in at #35 in the doubles rankings after going undefeated this season at 5-0 on both courts one and two. Freshman and sophomore are ranked #61 with a 1-3 dual match record on court two. The duo picked up a win against the 13thranked doubles team against Georgia. The doubles tandem of sophomore and Prokopuik check in at #50.

Next Up
The Yellow Jackets hit the road, traveling to Wake Forest on March 27 at 4 p.m. and to Duke on March 29 at noon.
