@GT_WTEN Travels to Virginia Tech, Virginia This Weekend

March 31, 2016

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Georgia Tech women’s tennis team will be on the road this weekend, as it faces No. 31 Virginia Tech and No. 12 Virginia.

Friday’s match against the Hokies will begin at 2:30 p.m., while Sunday’s match in Charlottesville against the Cavaliers will start 12 p.m.

The No. 16 Jackets will be led by Johnnise Renaud, who was named the ACC Co-Female Player of the Week on Tuesday for last week’s efforts in team wins over Pittsburgh and Clemson. Renaud is ranked as the No. 30 player in the nation.

“This is a big weekend for us,” head coach Rodney Harmon said. “We’re going to play two really good teams up in Virginia. We play Virginia Tech, which has had a winning record in the ACC and upset Miami at home last year, so they have a very good team.

“We’re going to have to be ready for them. On Sunday, we play Virginia, which is the No. 12 team in the country and has two of the top players in the nation,” Harmon said. “It’s going to be a very tough weekend for us, but we’re looking forward to going there. We’ve been playing well, so we’re hoping to put our best foot forward while we’re in the state of Virginia.”

Facing Ranked Opponents
The Yellow Jackets are 7-5 when facing ranked opponents so far this season, with their most recent matchup resulting in a win over then-No. 25 Clemson. Four of the five losses were to top-25 teams.

Doubles Point
The Yellow Jackets have won the doubles point in 11 matches this season and are 11-0 when taking the first point of the match. This season, the Yellow Jackets dropped the doubles point to No. 22 Wake Forest but rebounded to win the match, 5-2.
