THE FLATS –
Fourth-seeded Georgia Tech opens the 2018 Women’s Tennis Championship on Friday, May 11, facing Eastern Kentucky in first round action at 3 p.m. The Jackets will host first and second round play at the Ken Byers Tennis Complex, May 11-12. Auburn and Winthrop open regional play on Friday at noon.

THE SCENE: Making their 19th straight NCAA Tournament appearance, Tech carries a 21-5 overall record into the regional after reaching the semifinals of the ACC Championship. Last season, the Jackets advanced to the round of 16 in Athens, Ga., before falling to Oklahoma State.

Eastern Kentucky (16-8) went undefeated, 9-0, in OVC play to capture the regular season title and earned an automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament winning the OVC Tournament title. Capturing their fourth OVC Tournament crown, the Colonels have won 11 straight matches entering this weekend.

The Jackets face Eastern Kentucky for the first time in program history on Friday.

No. 20 Auburn (20-10, 8-5 SEC) and Winthrop (19-5, 8-0 Big South) will meet at noon on Friday to open regional play. The winners of Friday’s matches will play on Saturday at 1 p.m. for a spot in the round of 16 in Winston-Salem.

ITA RANKINGS: Tech and sits at No. 4 in the nation, while Auburn comes in as the 20th-ranked team in the country. Below are the individual rankings, which were released May 3:
