Alison Silverio Accepts Head Coaching Position at Oregon

May 28, 2014

THE FLATS – After four years as the assistant coach of the Georgia Tech women’s tennis team, Alison Silverio announced Wednesday that she has accepted the position of head women’s tennis coach at the University of Oregon.

“We’re very proud of Ali as she moves on to an exciting opportunity at the University of Oregon,” athletic director Mike Bobinski said. “Ali has contributed immensely to Georgia Tech’s women’s tennis program as both a player and a coach and she’ll bring a championship mentality to her new role. We wish her great success in the years ahead and know that she’ll always be a Yellow Jacket at heart.”

Silverio played for the Georgia Tech women’s tennis team from 2004-07 and was instrumental in leading the Yellow Jackets to its first NCAA championship title in 2007. Silverio returned to the Flats in 2011 as an assistant coach.

“It is a bittersweet goodbye as I continue to the next phase of my coaching journey,” Silverio said. “I am forever grateful to the administration, coaches, support staff and student-athletes for preparing and providing me with the necessary tools to further my career. Thank you to the entire Georgia Tech family for your support and a lifetime of memories. It is with great pride, honor and humbleness that I will always call Georgia Tech my beloved alma mater.”

Along with winning a NCAA Championship with the Jackets, Silverio was named the NCAA Tournament MVP in 2007. She was a four-time letterwinner and helped steer the Jackets to three-straight ACC championships in addition to the NCAA title. Silverio was named to the ACC All-Tournament Team in 2005 and 2007, and was named ACC Tournament MVP in 2005. A team captain her senior year, Silverio graduated as the school’s all-time leader in doubles wins (98), second in singles wins (107) and fourth in singles winning percentage (.711).

An outstanding student, Silverio was named to the ACC Honor Roll and the ACC All-Academic Team each of her four seasons in Atlanta. She was named to Georgia Tech’s Dean’s List all four years and won the ITA Scholar Athlete Award in 2005 and 2007. In addition, Silverio earned an ACC Postgraduate Scholarship in 2007. She also collected the 2007 ITA/Arthur Ashe Award for Leadership and Sportsmanship after her senior season and was a member of the Georgia Tech Student Athletic Advisory Board.

Following her impressive playing career at Tech, Silverio served as the NC State assistant women’s tennis coach from 2008-10. Silverio returned to her alma mater in 2011, coaching the Jackets to two ITA National Indoor Championships and four NCAA Tournaments where they made the round of 16 twice. Over her four seasons as an assistant coach at Tech, Silverio coached the Jackets to a 60-43 record.

During the 2014 season, sophomores Megan Kurey and Kendal Woodard captured the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships doubles title and were seeded in the NCAA doubles championship. The Jackets also closed out the 2014 regular season with an exciting 4-3 win against No. 1 Duke, making it only the fourth time in school history that the Jackets have defeated the top-ranked team in the nation.
