2014 ITA All-Academic Teams

THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech women’s tennis team was named an ITA All-Academic Team and sophomore Natasha Prokhnevska and senior Muriel Wacker earned ITA Scholar Athlete recognition the ITA announced Thursday.

The Yellow Jackets finished the 2014 season with a 14-10 record and made the NCAA Tournament for the 15th consecutive season. The women’s tennis team finished the spring semester with a 3.53 GPA, which was the highest team GPA at Georgia Tech.

This is the second straight year that Prokhnevska has been named an ITA Scholar-Athlete. The Wilmington, Delaware, native is a biochemistry major. Prokhnevska  finished the season with an overall record of 19-16 in singles and 17-13 in doubles while going 6-8 in singles in ACC matches. Prokhnevska was named the ACC Player of the Week on February 18 for clinching the win against #27 Tennessee and clinched four matches overall for the Jackets this past season.

This is the fourth time in her career that Wacker has been honored as an ITA Scholar-Athlete. Wacker was the 2014 captain of the Yellow Jackets and led the squad with 18 singles wins. She owned a team-best 12-2 mark in ACC play and finished off her senior season with five-straight wins. Wacker won both of her singles matches in the NCAA Tournament against Purdue and Vanderbilt. On her senior day, Wacker defeated the Blue Devil’s Rachel Kahan to clinch the Jackets’ win against #1-ranked Duke. Wacker went 11-10 in doubles play in her senior season. Wacker, who finished her career for the Yellow Jackets this past spring, will earn her degree in Industrial Engineering this fall.
