Men Place Sixth; Women Finish 12th At ACC Indoor Track & Field Championships

BLACKSBURG, Va. – Junior Jonathan Gardner’s first place finish in the triple jump helped the Georgia Tech men’s track and field team finish sixth at the ACC Indoor Championships at Rector Field House in Blacksburg, Va. Julienne McKee scored four team points in the triple jump and one team point in the long jump to lead the women’s team.

The men’s team took sixth place after totaling 39 points and the women’s team placed 12th with eight points.

Virginia Tech (153), Florida State (136) and Clemson (91) were the top three finishers in the men’s competition. On the women’s side, Clemson (141.5), Florida State (100) and Duke (82) were the top three teams.

Four Yellow Jackets earned All-ACC honors on the final day of the meet. Jonathan Gardner earned the only first team All-ACC honors for Georgia Tech in the triple jump with a distance of 15.82m (51-11).

Shawn Roberts earned second team honors after finishing second in the 800 meters with a time of 1:51.02. Zack Fanelty crossed the line third in the same event (1:51.42) to earn third team All-ACC honors.

Senior Aaron Unterberger placed third in the pole vault with a height of 5.31m (17-5) to earn All-ACC Third Team honors.

Broderick Snoddy finished fifth in the 60 meters with a time of 6.75 to contribute four team points and his seventh-place finish in the 200 meters with a time of 21.33 added two more points to the team score.

On the women’s side, McKee placed fifth in the triple jump with a distance of 12.86m. she had the best triple jump distance in the ACC heading into the meet.

The foursome of Morgan Jackson, Christina Pensock, Rachel Hammond and Caroline Kissel ran the DMR in 11:58.61 to earn Tech one team point.

The Jackets are back in action March 2 at the Last Chance Invitational at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, Ala.
