Edouard, Simpson Power Tech on Final Day of Spec Towns

ATHENS, Ga. – Despite inclement weather looming for much of the day, Georgia Tech outdoor track and field wrapped up the final day of the Spec Towns Invitational on Saturday without much delay.

The Yellow Jackets recorded three top-five times and three PRs to finish out the second day of competition.

Women’s Highlights

The women’s team led the way with nine top-10 finishes, none higher than Kendria Edouard in the 800m, who set ran a 2:16.85 PR to finish fourth overall. Brittany Powell finished just behind her in sixth with a time of 2:25.99.

Domonique Hall was able to lead Tech in the 400m, placing sixth overall in the event with a time of 56.20, while Shannon Innis (56.75) and Angelica Henderson (57.19) finished eighth and 10 th, respectively.

In the 200m, Denise Woode led the way with a 25.14, seventh-place finish, just edging out freshman Pharist O’Neal, who turned in a personal-record time of 25.17 for eighth. Hall also finished in the top 10, placing 10th with a time of 25.33.

O’Neal then went on to set her second career-best time on the day, finishing eighth in the 100m with a time of 12.15.

Men’s Highlights

Maurice Simpson continued his fine weekend for the Yellow Jackets on Saturday, finishing fifth in the 200m with a time of 21.93, before Bennett Hillier was also able to place fifth overall in the 800m with a time of 1:51.91.

In the 400m, Dwayne Watkins had a fine day, finishing sixth with a time of 50.69, before Wesley Watkins, Jr. capped the day by finishing seventh in the 110m hurdles with a time of 15.24.

Georgia Tech will return to action when it heads down to Auburn, Ala., for the Tiger Track Classic on March 13-14. The Jackets will then return home on March 20-21 for its final meet of the season on The Flats – the Georgia Tech Invitational.
