Chaunte Lowe Set To Compete In Olympic High Jump Thursday

Aug. 8, 2012

LONDON – Former Georgia Tech track and field star Chaunte (Howard) Lowe will compete in the qualifying round of the high jump at the Summer Olympics on Thursday at Olympic Stadium.

In 2004, she became the first woman from the Georgia Tech track and field team to compete in the Olympics. Lowe high jumped in the 2004 Athens and 2008 Beijing Olympics, but has never won a medal in her event.

The 28-year-old and mother of two children will compete against 34 other jumpers in the hopes of securing a spot in the finals to be held on Saturday, Aug. 11.

Lowe ended her collegiate career at Georgia Tech after her junior season in 2005 to sign a deal with Nike. In her three track and field seasons with the Yellow Jackets she earned three NCAA national titles, six All-America honors, six Atlantic Coast Conference titles, three ACC MVP awards and 13 All-ACC honors.
