Chaunte Lowe High Jumps Into Olympic Finals

Aug. 9, 2012

LONDON - Three-time Olympian and Georgia Tech track alum Chaunte (Howard) Lowe will seek her first ever Olympic medal as she high jumped her way into the Olympic finals Thursday at Olympic Stadium.

Lowe, the world indoor champion, had first round clearances in three consecutive jumps at 1.85m (6 ¾ feet), 1.90m (6-2 ¾) and 1.93m (6-4) for a clean card that secured the US record holder one of the 12 spots in the finals on Saturday.

Svetlana Radzivil of Uzbekistan notched the highest jump in the qualification round at a season-best 1.96m (6-5). The field also includes reigning world champion, Russian Anna Chicherova, and defending Olympic gold medalist Tia Hellebaut of Belgium.
