Taylor Earns Silver Medal; Lowe Finishes Sixth In Olympic Finals

Aug. 11, 2012

LONDON – Former Georgia Tech track stars Angelo Taylor and Chaunte (Howard) Lowe wrapped up their competition in the 2012 Summer Olympic games in the men’s 4x400-meter relay and women’s high jump, respectively, this weekend.

Taylor was a last minute addition to the men’s 4x400-meter relay team as three of the original six runners in the relay pool were battling injury before the race.

Competing in his fourth Olympics, Taylor added a silver medal to his four gold medals as he anchored the relay team comprised of Bryshon Nellum, Josh Mance and Tony McQuay.

The foursome finished as the runner up with a time of 2:57.05 to the team from the Bahamas that crossed the line in 2:56.72. It was the first time the USA didn’t take gold in that event since 1972.

Lowe finished in sixth place in the women’s high jump with a height of 1.97m (6-5 ½ feet). Anna Chicherova of Russia won the event with virtually a clean card and the best jump of 2.05m (6-8 ¾).

Brigetta Barrett of the US had the best jump of her career at 2.03m (6-8) for the silver medal and Svetlana Shkolina of Russia finished third (2.03m).
