Track and Field Announces 2016-17 Slate

Dec. 7, 2016

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech track and field released its competition schedule on Wednesday for the upcoming 2016-17 indoor and outdoor seasons. The slate features 10 meets in the indoor season and 11 meets in the outdoor season, including hosting the 2017 ACC Outdoor Championships at Griffin Track.

“We are very excited about the way the 2017 indoor and outdoor schedules came together,” said men’s track and field head coach Grover Hinsdale. “Week after week we will be competing in outstanding facilities including three home meets on the one and only Griffin Track. It will be a great honor to host the 2017 Outdoor ACC Championships here in May.”

“Our schedule for the upcoming season is exciting, featuring great facilities and outstanding competition,” said women’s track and field head coach Alan Drosky. “The women will have tremendous opportunities and our fall preparation has gone well. The highlights have got to be the ACC Championships with us hosting the outdoor meet and Notre Dame hosting indoors. We also have a great mix of regular season meets including many that have been mainstays on our schedule such as the Vanderbilt meets, the Florida Relays, and the Penn Relays. New to the schedule will be Clemson and Notre Dame indoors, and Florida State and Tennessee outdoors. Late in the season we’ll tune up for the championship meets with two memorial meets honoring Coach Tom Jones and UGA standout Torrin Lawrence.”

The Yellow Jackets open their indoor season at Clemson for the Orange and Purple Classic on Jan. 7. Tech makes two more trips in the indoor season to Clemson for the Bob Pollack Invitational (Jan. 27-28) and the Tiger Tuneup (Feb. 18). They also make three trips to Vanderbilt during the indoor season. The ACC Indoor Championships will be hosted at Notre Dame from Feb. 23-24.

Tech kicks off the outdoor season by hosting the annual Yellow Jacket Invitational on March 17. The squad will have three meets on the road before returning to George C. Griffin Track for the Georgia Tech Invitational from April 21-22.

Georgia Tech will also serve as the host site to the ACC Outdoor Championships, May 12-14. It marks the fourth time Georgia Tech will host the championships; the last time was in 2008 at which eight Yellow Jackets earned All-ACC honors.
