@GTVolleyball Defeats Auburn in Season Opener

AUBURN, Ala. – The Georgia Tech volleyball team won its first match of 2016, defeating Auburn, 3-1, on Friday on the first night of the War Eagle Invitational.  

How It Happened
The opening set was neck and neck as each team settled into their first match of the season. Auburn took the lead 16-15 and pulled away with the set 25-21. Georgia Tech took the lead in the second set at 13-12 and never looked back, winning 25-22, to even the match.

Georgia Tech led by as many as seven points in set three to eventually win 25-18, and kept that momentum into set four to win 25-19 to capture the match.

"It was a very challenging match to start the season, Auburn came out siding out really well but we were able to keep our composure and work together to find ways to get things going,” head coach Michelle Collier said. “It was a big team win with a lot of people contributing, and it was a great defensive match. We played hard and confident. It was good to get the first match jitters out and now it's time to rest up and prepare for a very good Pacific team tomorrow."

The Jackets wrap up the War Eagle Invite on Saturday with matches against Pacific at 10:30 a.m. ET and against Furman at 6 p.m. ET.
